Maria Baranova is a New York-based photographer and art director specializing in dance and theater imagery. With a background in Art Painting and Photography, she has spent over a decade documenting experimental performance.
Her early career included work in painting and collage, which informed her approach to photography. She also has professional experience as a layout designer, contributing to her understanding of composition, light, and color. This interdisciplinary background continues to influence her photographic work.

Baranova’s photography has been included in publications such as “Midnight Moment: A Decade of Artists in Times Square” and “For Freedoms: Where Do We Go From Here?” published by Phaidon in 2024. Her work has also appeared in international press. She is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers, USA.

From 2016 to 2018, Baranova filmed and edited the performance series “12 Shouts to the Ten Forgotten Heavens” by Sibyl Kempson. The resulting film was publicly shown at the Whitney Museum of American Art and was added to the museum’s collection.
