AMERICAN
APARTMENT DIARY

American Apartment Diary (2011-2016) documents my first years in the United States through a series of self-portraits taken in every place I lived or spent the night. What began as a playful experiment—wanting to remember the spaces I inhabited without resorting to typical tourist photos—became a deeper reflection on presence and environment. Each room is photographed exactly as I found it, with no styling or arrangement, allowing the space to speak for itself.

Without the face or eye contact, the body is just a surface for the light and shadows. It is present in the picture but lacks human attributes. I imagined myself as furniture and asked what would be a good spot for me to be placed in. Suddenly, I did not control the room anymore, the room controlled me.
