Since 2016, I returned regularly to the Watermill Center to photograph Residency artists, Watermill ‘s grounds and buildings, International Summer Program, the light, the art, and of course, Bob.
Over the years, I saw the Center through changing seasons and the eyes of the artists who shaped its life.While the environment continually evolved, the original design and artistic vision of Robert Wilson remained consistent and intact.
The summers of 2017 and 2018 were like fever dreams. Alongside the members of the doc team, we spent five weeks photographing everything at the Watermill Center—all day, every day. We captured the gardening, the landscape, the buildings, the people, the build-up and take-down, the gala, the stars and the tears.
I am still absorbing the gifts of those years; the lessons I learned continue to emerge, often surprising me in the most unexpected moments. The friendships that stretch across the globe are a constant reminder of Bob’s greatest gift: his ability to connect people.
